The D103 BOE thanked Christopher Curtis for his 12 years of service on the school board during its meeting, Tuesday, April 23. Newest member Rana Hashemi was welcomed to the board.

Board President Anne van Gerven said, "Mr. Curtis has been our senior statesman. He gave us a good sense of perspective."

Mr. Curtis highlighted four areas of accomplishment, although Superintendent Scott Warren named many more in his farewell speech. Mr. Curtis said he was proud of the board while he served on it for supporting and implementing full day kindergarten, world language, completing a successful teacher negotiation and hiring a quality superintendent.

Of his departure, Dr. Warren stated, "Mr. Curtis has been an invaluable leader to our District 103 students, staff and community. During his tenure, he has helped oversee many of the District initiatives and improvements, including:

  • Construction projects at Sprague and Half Day
  • Reconfiguring the grade levels with fifth–grade moving to Half Day
  • Changing our start times so our oldest students start no earlier than 8:30 a.m.
  • The implementation of a K-8 Spanish program
  • Redefining of our differentiation program
  • 1:1 Learning initiative
  • The creation and implementation of our strategic plan and subsequent plans
  • Supporting our efforts on diversity and equity

Dr. Warren added, "Mr. Curtis has always been a voice of compassion, reason and what is good and right for our students, families and staff."
